My name is Maria DeGroodt, a Masters of Social Work intern at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota who is lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate with Summer Counseling families. I have a passion for teaching and a love of learning. My career is centered around providing children of all ages with fun and engaging learning opportunities. I work full time as a home visitor through Early Head Start. I have experience working with kiddos of all ages, from infants all the way up to middle school who have seen way too much in their young lives including poverty, loss, and trauma. I embrace following the lead of the child, guiding on their terms, and utilizing a whole family approach through play therapy, art therapy, and anything that interests the child.
Originally, I’m from Kansas City, MO and moved to theTwin Cities about ten years ago. While I do miss KC, Minnesota is home. When I’m not visiting families, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to movies, music, binging my favorite true crime shows, traveling when I can, Legos, reading, Chipotle, and of course, Chiefs football!
