Ronnie McDowell, BA, Mental Health Practitioner
Hi, I’m Ronnie! I’m a part of the CTSS program at Summer Counseling and am currently pursuing my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Adler Graduate School.
My path to counseling has included performing music, spending some time teaching music, coaching tumbling, practicing tumbling and parkour, and working in community-based helping roles. Although these experiences may seem different, each deepened my interest in how people learn, build confidence, adapt, and make sense of their lives.
My approach to counseling is person-centered and integrative, with influences from Adlerian counseling, ACT, DBT, and mindfulness. In everyday terms, that means I want to understand the bigger picture of your life, help you clarify what matters to you, and offer practical skills for navigating difficult thoughts, emotions, relationships, and situations. I am also personally influenced by Jungian psychology and Eastern philosophy, particularly their attention to meaning, balance, and parts of ourselves that can be difficult to put into words. Those influences shape my curiosity, while our work remains grounded in your own beliefs and goals.
In sessions, I tend to be thoughtful, curious, and down-to-earth. I enjoy helping people find language for difficult experiences, notice connections, and consider new ways of approaching familiar problems. Outside of counseling, I enjoy making music, writing, spending time with my dog, and exploring the occasional rabbit hole in psychology and philosophy.
